10 Ways to Help Hickory Day School
Collect Box tops for Education. These simple squares are found on innumerable products. Cut them out and place them in the Box tops for Education box in the office. Also, you can visit the Box Tops for Education website and sign up to receive additional box tops for our school.
Link your Harris Teeter VIC card to Hickory Day School. We receive a donation from the together in education program (TIE) based on your purchases. Linking your cards must be done every year. If you did it last year, here's your reminder. It's time to do it again.
Collect Green Pennies. Many of you already have the jar at home collecting change. For our new families, please pick up a jar in the office. We gather our pennies and other change to help pay for our landscaping efforts which we try to continue in an environmentally friendly sustainable manner.
Purchase Lowes Food Gift Cards. Orders are taken each fall and spring for these gift cards. Our school makes a profit of between 6 and 10 percent depending on our order size. But...did you know you can purchase Lowes Food Gift Cards any time of year? There is currently a supply available in the office. Please consider using these to make your usual purchases at Lowes Foods.
Internet shop via the Yellow Brick Mall. Find the link on the HDS homepage. Click to this link first before clicking the store of your choice when shopping via the internet. A percentage of sales is donated to the school on a quarterly basis.
Donate to the Yard Sale. Don't throw it away, donate it! What do we sell? EVERYTHING. With Adele Mangan's incredible assistance we gather everything from knick knacks to whole living room sets. These items are sold throughout the year via e-bay and in one blowout yard sale at the end of the year. All donations are tax deductible.
Display a Hickory Day School car magnet. We are a small school. We sit a little off the beaten path. Getting our name out to others and demonstrating our pride in our school is extremely important to our sustainability and growth. If you need a car magnet, they can be found in the office.
Volunteer. We are small but we are mighty. The things that we accomplish on an annual basis are truly astounding but could not be attempted, let alone completed without your help. We always have volunteer opportunities available for parents, grandparents, and friends. If you would like to be involved, please contact our HDSPA president.
Check the website. In an effort to become a greener school, we have eliminated a lot of paper. This means that the majority of communication will happen via the internet. Checking our school website and keeping up with e-mail on a regular basis is a necessity.
Attend Hickory Day School Parents' Association (HDSPA) meetings. The first meeting is scheduled for Friday, Sept 11th at 7:45 AM. It is the beginning of the year, so there is certain to be a large quantity of information to be disseminated. We would like to answer your questions and hear your voice.
