TK Math: Students will continue to work on estimation. We will be estimating length and quantity.
TK Writing: Students will continue to work on writing their first and last names. We will also learn to write the letter Tt in D'Nealian.
TK Phonics: Students will focus on the letter Tt this week. We will learn through song, poems, literacy and sort.
Guided Reading: The books we are reading this week are listed below. I have chosen books that will lead into our next unit of inquiry about plants and animals. Green Group: Taste This! Strategies:asking questions to understand text and comparing and contrasting Red Group: Frog is Hungry Strategies: making and confirming predictions and identifying story elements This book will allow students to think about and discuss the responsibilities that go along with having a pet. Yellow Group: I Wonder Strategies: asking questions to understand text and classifying information The students will have to opportunity to “wonder” about various types of animals.
Readers Theatre: We are concentrating on word recognition, voice inflection, presentation and fluency. Please join us every week for the performances. This week showtime is Friday, 9:15! The time will always be posted on this class page. This week every group will read a version of the script Animals, Animals.
Shared Reading: This week we will be finishing our President's day stories with Otto Runs for President and getting a jump start on our next unit with the following animal stories: Over In Australia: Amazing Animals Down Under, My Farm Friends, and Party Animals. We will be working with the characterizing comprehension strategy.
Math: Mrs. Alison's Center: Our new math centers have been a big success! The students enjoy having more math time! This week we will continue our study of money. The yellow and red group will be working on counting coins. The green group will be working on counting money and solving number stories related to adding and subtracting money.
Mrs. Heather's Center (Measurement): We will read the story The Mitten by Jan Brett. I will have several mitten stations and students will fill the mittens. We will also continue to estimate quantity and begin estimating length.
Mrs. Anna's Center (Numeracy): This week students will be working with more than, less than and equal to. The students will be able use symbols to compare numbers.
Writing: This week the students will begin learning about describing words. We will explore a mystery object and make a list of words to describe it. Students will practice using describing words in their writing.
Spelling: The Green group will study the last R controlled vowel, “ur”. They will complete a word sort at the end of the week. The red group will continue working with consonant blends. All of their words this week will include a R consonant blend.
Green: hurt, turn, curl, burst, burn, Red: crab, drip, drag, crop, drum
Handwriting:Students will be working on writing the letter Pp this week. We learn how to write upper and lower case letters using lined paper. The students are beginning to hold their pencils correctly without using their pencil grips! I am so proud of them!
Wellness: This week we will apply our loco motor movements to games relating to our jobs unit.
Art: This week we will complete our study of “Art and Your Emotions.” The children are animating feeling-words.
