Inquiry Into: Environmental Education
This Friday we will clean the pond area, prep the butterfly garden bodering the nature
trail, and sink identification posts,if weather permits. We will probably wait for better
weather to mulch the trail.
This week students will participate in a variety of environmental education activities.
POD teams will select activities they want to facilitate during the Earth Day
celebration. This celebration will allow students to develop valuable leadership skills.
We will gather for a Zero Waste Lunch in the HDS courtyard on Earth Day. POD students
will address the school at 12:45 to begin the afternoon's festivities. POD teams will
guide the lower school through a series of fun environmental education activities from
1:00pm to 2:30pm. The POD will discuss an afternoon plan for middle school students this
week. They have discussed creating multi-age teams and a separate middle school team
with different activities.
Also, students will contact environmental experts this week. We hope to have a variety
of environmental presentations the morning of Earth Day. This portion of the program will
be open to students in grades 4-8.
Inquiry Into:
Genetic Engineering
At this time students are studying biomimicry. What happens when you put a spider's
genes into a goat's DNA? You get super milk with silk-like fibers that you can
manipulate. The technology is called biosteel. It's cool!
Inquiry Into:
Animals
Students will select Earth Day activities that educate students about animal adaptations.
